Installation Checklist for Frameless Shower Doors

Installing frameless shower doors has a lot of moving parts, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. They’re a beautiful asset to your bathroom and a focal point of many modern bathrooms. As much as you may be looking forward to the end result, it can be helpful to have an idea of what to expect.

Though the process has many details, three key phases that go into successfully installing frameless shower doors. Those three phases are precision, safety, and planning. All of them are important for achieving a successful outcome. Time and money can be wasted without them.

Pre-Installation Measurements and Planning

The most foundational phase of frameless shower door installation is the pre-installation measurements and planning phase. This is where you get all the finer details down about the dimension of your space. Accurate measurements are a must, and we recommend measuring in three spots–top, middle, and bottom–for the most accuracy.

All surfaces must be level or the shower could be sloped, leading to water damage. Wall materials must be secured as well so the mounts and panels have something stable to connect with.

Reviewing the layout, door swing direction, and necessary clearance are all needed before finalizing your order.

Hardware and Glass Inspection

Checking the hardware and glass before installation gets started is crucial. It’d be a disappointment to get halfway through the installation process, only to realize you have the wrong color hardware or the glass isn’t the right cut and finish.

Before installing gets started, check these components. Any trusted shower professional will not object to this check. Look at items like hinges and clamps before installation. Take a look at the tempered glass too.

During this inspection, you want to check that these materials meet the specifications you have without defects or misalignments. Should any be found, address them before proceeding with the installation.

Safe Handling and Proper Placement

Though tempered glass shower door panels are durable, they should still be handled with care. Handling them incorrectly can lead to scratches or even broken panels. Always handle glass panels with assistance and lift them carefully.

When ready to install, be sure to align glass panels at the marked installation points. Use the proper tools and hardware to securely mount the panels to the wall or align them on tracks. As a safety precaution, maintain cleanliness throughout, minimizing the risk of trips or falls which could damage the worksite or result in injury. During installation, verify the alignment during and after.
